Tools Menu Added to CPN
I have added a "Tools" pull-down menu to CPN. The items on this menu
are:
- Insert a Midi
File -- This option lets you
read a midi file and insert the notes read from the file at the
beginning of the current phrase. This may be useful if you are
learning a piece in several fragments and then want to combine the
fragments into a larger piece. This will not work well if the Midi
file has not bee saved from this same version of CPN, that saves
some extra CPN data in a second file alongside the Midi
file.
- Append a Midi
File -- This option lets you
read a midi file and add the notes read from the file at the end
of the current phrase. This may be useful if you are learning a
piece in several fragments and then want to combine the fragments
into a larger piece. This will not work well if the Midi file has
not bee saved from this same version of CPN, that saves some extra
CPN data in a second file alongside the Midi file.
- Set Parameters -- This option opens a screen that you can
use to set tempo, instrument, and/or loudness.
- Enter Notes by
Letter -- Opens a screen that
lets you quickly add notes by typing in their letter names (A-G),
etc. Be sure to select the correct Stave, Key Signature, and Tempo
on the CPN screen before adding notes by letter.
- Quantize Timing -- Sometimes, perhaps when tempo has been
changed or when the CPN has been read from a Midi file, little
errors in the duration and rhythm values of the notes cause the
CPN to look very bad, with notes in the wrong measures or notes
slipping across measure boundaries when they shouldn't, etc. This
function will cause the program to try to eliminate by rounding
off the minor discrepancies that cause these anomalies. It might
work, but it might not, so use it with caution.
