In this research, David Chechelashvili situates electronic music-making with a modular synthesiser within a broader context of technologically mediated music composition and the various traditions and philosophical underpinnings derived from psychoanalytic writings of Freudian origin and later influenced by the work of French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan. This practice-based research includes the composition of several commercially released albums of ambient electronic music. It explores the possibilities of composing music with a modular synthesiser, and how psychoanalytic concepts provide direction to musical thinking and practice. The work explores how these sources have come together to form a creative output that is both unique and distinct from any of its individual sources.
